About

My art education began as a child. Being the daughter of architect Ralph Twitchell; founder of the Sarasota School of Architecture, I was frequently exposed to good design and perfectionism. Because of this perfectionism I learned early on to be very focused and diligent in everything I did. Shunning art schools I worked on my own and occasionally took short term classes or workshops. An extended apprenticeship in clay and bronze was very intense and helped to define my orientation and discipline. I have always ended up teaching what I learned

Presently I am focusing on pastel painting to the exclusion of other mediums.

I find it very inspiring to work ‘ en plein aire’ as I have always felt close to nature. It becomes a meditation for me to do a quick study out of doors and then refine it with a bit of imagination in the studio. Occasionally because of the shifting early or late light I use my own photographs. More and more I depend on my inner visualizations to carry a work to completion. My hope is to convey a sense of peace and harmony with light.
